We stopped by the capital’s most exciting venue, Printworks, for a taste of Afterlife with Tale Of Us.
Fresh off the back of a successful debut season at the revolutionary Hï Ibiza, Tale Of Us were keen to illustrate to the rest of the world why they hosted one of the most discussed residencies on the island this year. What better platform to prove it on other than Printworks in London?
Described as one of the most distinctive structures in London, Printworks isn’t just another venue, its an experience. Situated in Surrey Quays just a stone’s throw away from Canada Water, you’ll find it quite difficult not to be impressed by the former printing factory.
From its staggering lighting and sound production displays to a vast interior which boasts a maze of corridors, hideaways and original industrial machinery, this multi-purpose venue has quickly changed the face of the capital’s cultural scene since arriving.
Making this occasion only more fitting, the above is a feeling Afterlife has become all too familiar with. First appearing in Ibiza back in 2016, Tale Of Us’ world renowned party and label has since established itself as an all-encompassing sensory overload.
Taking us on an odyssey through the realm of consciousness, this outing proved to be another thrilling guide to resurgence through the lush swells of sound the brand has become known for.
Up and coming Italian duo, Fideles, turned heads during their early afternoon slot showcasing such immense potential with a blend of melodic and interesting layers which formed their mature and complete sound.
With a heavy focus on live performances, Afterlife has proven a hugely beneficial platform for the uniqueness and complexity of Agents Of Time. Characterised by the unpredictability of using analog instruments, the ambitious trio demonstrated their stunning capacity for all to see.
Meticulously advancing through a sonic signature of powerful and progressive techno and ambient textures, their most recent productions including ‘Dream Vision’ and ‘Floating Time’ proved popular with those on the floor.
Having recently dropped their debut album, ‘Nude’, on Afterlife Recordings, we were keen to see Swiss duo, Adriatique, take to the controls. Diverse and adventurous, the two Adrians effortlessly switched between slick, downtempo electronica and driving club flair including such insertions as ‘Panchromatic’ and ‘Point Of No Return’.
Setting the scene for a story of quirky and idiosyncratic twists and turns, contrasting emotions with a glowing yet melancholic aura made for a stand-out performance on the night.
Berlin-based live technician, Recondite, followed in impressive fashion. Heavily inspired by the natural world, Brunner illustrated a smooth production style with rich but ambiguous melodies playing his own exclusive content.
With more than over 100 to choose from, the one that resonated with us the most was his remix of Roland Appel’s ‘Gonzo’ – a darker number fused together buy hunting bells and shuffling rhythms.
From 8:30pm onwards, the 6,000 capacity venue belonged to Afterlife generals, Tale Of Us. Individually comprised of Matteo Milleri and Carmine Conte, the main attraction of the night were determined to display the full extent of their poignant and enchanting artillery.
Finely furnished with big licks of bass and a huge crescendo, the duo worked in ‘Vigilans’ by German duo, Innelea, as they combined a wide range of elements including unhinged drumming, zippy synth melodies and a very distinct, heavy, guitar riff.
Promising something alternative and adventurous, expectations for Afterlife at Printworks were at an all-time high. Much to our delight, these were surpassed.
From the moment we walked through the doors to the moment we stumbled out, this industrial adventure-like playground ensured that stepping foot into the Afterlife was one of our most complete experiences in 2018.
