April 2017 – Our favourite 10 releases of the month

Now that the days growing longer and the temperature starting to soar, the countdown to the summer is officially on. With April now in our rear view mirrors, here are 10 tracks that provided us with the perfect spring soundtrack…

H.O.S.H. – ‘Karma’ [Diynamic] – 7th April

Focusing more on his studio production following a short hiatus from touring, H.O.S.H. delivers his first release of the year with ‘Karma’ on Solomun’s Diynamic. The German brings with him a sound of impressive depth and evocative quality. Fusing together echoing synth stabs and harmonic vocals, H.O.S.H. further compliments this with a characteristic rich bassline guaranteed to fill any dance floor.

Vinicius Honorio – ‘Walking Shadow’ [Drumcode] – 10th April

Brazilian-born and London-based, Vinicius Honorio is one name making serious headway amongst a new crop of rising Techno artists. Proving testament to his potential, Vinicius’ next EP release comes on Drumcode. ‘Walking Shadow’ commences proceedings with a tense and brooding drum and bass affair and has been a favourite during Adam Beyer’s sets recently.

Amelie Lens – ‘Contradiction’ [Second State] – 14th April

A personal favourite of ours here at My Ibiza, Amelie Lens is one of the hottest export products to rise out of Belgium. Returning home to Pan Pot’s spectacular Second State label, Amelie’s minimalistic approach speaks volumes with ‘Contradiction’. Equipped with an enormous drum kick, elements of Amelie’s beautiful vocals introduce a spine-tingling acid line concluding in an energetic whirlwind rush.

ANNA – ‘Far Beyond’ [RUKUS] – 14th April

Appearing as the only other artist aside from label boss Matador to have a release on new imprint RUKUS, Barcelona-based ANNA showcases her signature seductive Brazilian Techno with ‘Far Beyond’. ANNA utilises steady Techno rhythms to hypnotise the listener and envelopes the atmosphere throughout with euphoric tones.

Laurent Garnier – ‘From The Crypt To The Astrofloor’ [Kompakt] – 14th April

An explosive monster straight from Laurent Garnier’s impeccable ‘Tribute’ EP on Cologne label, Kompakt, ‘From The Crypt To The Astrofloor’ was unleashed by the legendary Frenchman at last month’s Timewarp in Germany. Entering a new realm of cerebral fantasy, this release almost depicts a “retro-fitted” future far, far away from any basement dance floor.

Sonny Fodera – ‘Set Me Free’ [AARRIVAL] – 21st April

Introducing his new label, AARRIVAL, inspired by always arriving at new destinations, Defected’s golden boy Sonny Fodera begins proceedings on his new imprint with ‘Set Me Free’. Possessing the perfect balance of repetitive ethereal vocals blended with groovy basslines, this is the perfect start to Sonny’s newest concept.

Flashmob – ‘Freakin’ Babe’ [Toolroom] – 21st April

Teaming up with Mark Knight’s prestigious Toolroom Records for the very first time, Flashmob has been in very high demand ever since his chart-topping success back in 2012 with ‘Need in Me’. Gaining early support from BBC Radio 1’s Pete Tong with ‘Freakin’ Babe’, this all-star production pairs together tom-based drums and infectious vocals lining it up to be one of the soundtracks of the summer.

Doctor Dru – ‘Corner Ball’ [Upon You Records] – 24th April
Having constructed a huge reputation as a part of the hanseatic JEUDI camp in recent years, the notorious Doctor Dru turns some serious heads with ‘Corner Ball’ – his debut release on Upon You Records. Commencing proceedings with a techy intro sequence and a monumental build of busy midrange synth wildpitch efforts with metallic percussion and screaming sci-fi tones.

Nick Curly – ‘Amnezia’ [8Bit] – 24th April

Back with the first of many incredible releases in 2017, definitive Tech House talent Nick Curly brings quite the robust affair to his 8Bit label with his refined signature sound. Introducing you to ‘Amnezia’, Nick will undoubtedly ignite dance floors everywhere with the ultimate combination of tightly coiled drums, slick and funk inducing packing with building tension and a locked-on groove.

Davina Moss, Issa Elle – ‘Oh Mama’ [Hot Creations] – 28th April

Considered by many as one of the hottest commodities on today’s scene, Davina Moss is one name increasing in demand. Based in Ibiza, Davina has become strongly admired for her emotive, sexy House and Tech House sound. Lending Hot Creations more than just a punch, Davina chimes in with her latest release, ‘Oh Mama’, complimented with some fiery vocals and smoking grooves directly for your imagination. The melodic inclusion of Issa Elle’s vocals works magically in cohesion with the heavy kicks and pulsating bass too.

Soaked deep within his city’s vibrant underground scene since the 90’s, Berlin-born Sebo K acknowledges his early days of Breakbeat and Jungle with his ‘Brock Wild’ EP providing some extra sultry funk for those on the dance floor. Keeping the pressure turned up to the maximum, the Scenario chief invites you to shake your hips to an episode of funk filled goodness.
